El ius ad bellum en la teoría de la guerra justa de Michael Walzer

Resumen

Michael Walzer es uno de los más importantes teóricos políticos norteamericanos todavía en activo. Entre el gran número de obras que ha publicado destacan Guerras justas e injustas
(1977), Esferas de la justicia (1983) y Sobre la tolerancia (1997). Los últimos trabajos que Walzer ha dedicado al problema de la guerra mantienen la perspectiva moral con la que comenzó a desarrollar su teoría de la guerra justa en la obra de 1977. En el presente artículo analizamos dicha teoría y, en particular, el lugar que ocupa en ella el ius ad bellum, con vistas a mostrar el acierto de la respuesta de Walzer al interrogante por la justicia o injusticia de guerras como la que Estados Unidos ha librado contra Afganistán.

Abstract: Michael Walzer is one of the most important American political theorists that are still active. Among the large number of works he has published we may highlight Just and Unjust Wars (1977), Spheres of Justice (1983) and On Tolerance (1997). The recent works of Walzer that are devoted to the problem of war held moral perspective with which he began to develop his theory of a just war in the work of 1977. In this paper we analyze that theory and, in particular, the role that plays in it the ius ad bellum, in order to show the correctness of Walzer’s response to the question of justice or injustice of wars like one that the U.S. has waged against Afghanistan.
